Jersey housing qualifications
Your residential status decides which Jersey homes you may legally occupy. A Qualified person may live anywhere on the island. A Registered person — once called unqualified — may live only in property that is itself Registered, which is a far smaller pool.

Of the 1648 properties currently advertised across the 38 agencies we index, 166 state a residential status. The other 1482 do not — which means the category is unknown, not unrestricted.

We never infer a status. A listing whose agent did not publish one is shown as Not stated and is not counted as either — guessing it would be the most consequential thing this site could get wrong.

3 properties are currently advertised as Registered, 2 of those to rent. This is everything the agencies we index have actually labelled — a Registered person should still ask, because most listings say nothing either way.
Which Jersey agents publish residential status
Most do not. These 14 state it on at least some of their listings, which is why a search on this site can show it at all.
Jersey residential status questions
- What is the difference between Qualified and Registered in Jersey?
- Qualified and Registered are residential statuses under the Control of Housing and Work (Jersey) Law 2012. A Qualified person may occupy any property on the island. A Registered person — someone who has not yet met the residency requirement — may occupy only property that is itself categorised as Registered, which is a much smaller pool.
- Can a Registered person rent any property in Jersey?
- No. A Registered person may legally occupy only Registered property. Most Jersey listings do not state their category at all, so the status has to be confirmed with the agent before viewing rather than assumed from the advert.
- How many Jersey listings state their residential qualification?
- Of 1648 properties currently advertised across the agencies we index, 166 state a residential status — 163 Qualified and 3 Registered. The remaining 1482 do not say, which means the category is unknown rather than unrestricted.
- Is unqualified the same as Registered?
- "Unqualified" is the older term for what the 2012 Law calls Registered. Adverts and search results still use both, and they mean the same category of housing.
The categories are set by the Control of Housing and Work (Jersey) Law 2012, and your own status is a matter for the States of Jersey rather than for an agent or a portal. Nothing here is advice on your position.
