Plan around a Friday afternoon
Freehold purchases complete when the contract passes before the Royal Court on a Friday afternoon, so that is when most buyers get their keys — and when removal firms are busiest.
Moving from the UK
Household goods reach the island by freight ferry: door to door in a removal lorry, in a container, or as a shared part load for smaller moves.
GST relief on your belongings
If you have lived outside Jersey for at least 12 months, you can bring household goods you have owned and used at your former home for at least 6 months without paying GST. You declare them to Jersey Customs and Immigration, from up to 6 months before import to 12 months after you arrive. If you sell, lend or give them away within 12 months, GST becomes due.
Removals is not a regulated trade
Jersey has no licence or register for removal firms. The British Association of Removers is the UK trade body, and a firm’s membership can be checked on its site.
